The chefs behind Via Carota just spent $6.5 million on a West Village storefront, and paperwork filed for the space points to another restaurant.

Rita Sodi and Jody Williams, who are married, bought the ground-floor commercial unit at 312 Bleecker Street, between Barrow and Grove streets, according to a deed that was recorded with the city on Thursday. The space is right next door to I Sodi, the Tuscan restaurant Sodi moved to 314 Bleecker in 2023 after years at a much smaller spot on Christopher Street.

The unit measures roughly 1,500 square feet, Crain’s reports, and sits at the base of a four-story building. The outlet also found that recent permit filings with the Department of Buildings lay out plans to install new light fixtures and other appliances in connection with a new restaurant. PincusCo first reported the sale.

The couple hasn’t said what they plan to do with the space. Representatives didn’t respond to requests for comment, and it’s not yet known whether they’ll expand I Sodi or open something new. Either way, it’s the first retail space they’ve owned in New York City, according to The Real Deal.

Sodi and Williams already run a tight cluster of restaurants within a few blocks of the new space: Via Carota at 51 Grove Street, Bar Pisellino at 52 Grove Street, Buvette at 42 Grove Street, The Commerce Inn at 50 Commerce Street and I Sodi, plus their food and supply shop, Officina 1397. They’ve also announced a second Bar Pisellino at the base of the Flatiron Building, set to open next year.
